Double bass set up and adjustment

The setting has a direct impact on the sound and playability of your instrument. Whether you are an amateur, a professional, a school or a conservatory, the workshop will be at your disposal and will accompany you so that you find the setting that suits you with the most beautiful sound. There are many parameters to consider and then put together for a setting to be convincing, here are a few examples.

  1. The fingerboard depending on the double bass can have a shape that varies: more or less flat, wide, or with a cutaway and of course the quality of the wood… It is recognized that this parameter influences the playing comfort but also the sound quality.
  2. Soundpost, comes to bring a grain to the sound of the instrument, there is the standard location which is a base from which we can go and search for personal frequencies and our preferences. Depending on the location, the tension of the soundpost, the register of the instrument may change, which will lead to more treble, shiny or darker or even loudbass…
  3. A bridge adjusted and cut will link the parameters mentioned above; then there are in more to consider, strings, nut, tailpieces etc … The set will have to be adapted according to the instrument and the musician.
